Join renowned record label Putumayo World Music and insightCuba on a 6-day or extended 8-day journey dedicated to the rhythm of Cuba. From the moment you touch the ground in Havana, Putumayo’s official music specialist, Jacob Edgar will give you an intimate look at the island's unique culture through the music and people that make Cuba so fascinating. The Putumayo Cuba! Cuba! Tour includes inside access to musicians, private performances, dance lessons, and even a visit to the recording studio used to record the Buena Vista Social Club. We’ll also explore local cuisine, art and traditions with your expert Cuban guide who will offer a unique perspective and understanding of the place they call home.

Day 1

After clearing immigration and customs at the José Martí International Airport in Havana, you’ll take a taxi to the Hotel Inglaterra for check-in and a tour orientation*. This evening, we’ll host a cocktail reception with Putumayo’s long-time music researcher and ethnomusicologist Jacob Edgar, your Cuban guide, and fellow guests. Afterwards, we’ll enjoy a special welcome dinner at a paladar (a private, family-owned restaurant) accompanied by a live performance.

Day 2

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll take a walking tour of Old Havana and its labyrinth cobble streets as we listen for the city’s tantalizing sounds weave their way through side streets and alleyways. After, we’ll make a ‘must-see’ stop at Havana’s famous Fine Arts Museum, which houses an explosive collection of artwork displayed over five floors and led by our private museum guide. Next, we'll visit the Museum of the Revolution and learn about Cuba since 1959, from a Cuban perspective.

After lunch at a paladar, we’ll visit EGREM’s legendary Areito Studios where Ry Cooder and the Buena Vista Social Club album was recorded in 1997, as well as music from many other legendary artists. Tonight, we’ll dine at the paladar El Cocinero at the Fabrica de Arte. Afterwards we’ll enjoy live music at this unique art and music venue. Afterwards, hardy souls can join Jacob on a tour of some of Havana’s vibrant live music venues

Day 3

This morning, meet with Alberto Faya and a talented group of musicians to hangout, talk, and listen to them perform samples of music and jam. Afterwards, we’ll head over to the Habana Compás Dance company for a fiery percussion and dance performance.  

After lunch, we’ll learn some of Cuba’s classic dance moves from a master dance instructor. Tonight, we’ll dine a paladar.

Day 4

We’ll start the day by meeting with one of Cuba’s most influential photographers, Roberto Chile, who is known for his filming and photography of Fidel Castro. Next, we’ll visit a cigar factory to see how these famous cigars are made by hand. 

For lunch, we’ll dine at the restaurant Espacio and enjoy a live performance. Next, we’ll pay a special visit to Clave de Sol, an accomplished children’s choir and guitar group, who have toured the U.S.

Tonight, enjoy dinner on your own. Following dinner, join Jacob for another club-hopping session in search of Cuba’s hottest bands.

Day 5

This morning we’ll visit a neighborhood farmer’s market and then continue to the town of Guanabacoa, where we’ll meet the Afro-Cuban group, Lazaro Rós Ensemble for a private music and dance performance, and learn about the origins of Santeria, and its profound influence on Cuban music. Next, we'll visit Ernest Hemingway’s home, Finca Vigía, where you’ll come to understand why the author chose to spend twenty years in Cuba.

We’ll have lunch at Playa del Este (East Beach), where you can dip your feet in the Caribbean Sea and boogie to our own live beachside performance. Afterwards, we'll return to Havana for a farewell dinner at the paladar, La Bonita.

Day 6

Cienfuegos Cuba
EXTENSION: Havana / Cienfuegos
Extension: Day 6

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll leave Havana for Cienfuegos via Playa Larga and Playa Girón, the famous site of the Bay of Pigs. After a visit to the Bay of Pigs Museum, will continue our journey to the charming town of Cienfuegos.

After check-in at the historic Hotel La Union and some rest, we’ll dine at a paladar.  After dinner, we’ll head to UNEAC, the National Writer’s and Artist’s Union of Cienfuegos for a live evening performance by legendary Cuban son band Los Naranjos at a local courtyard venue. For those with a zeal for nighttime musical adventures, join Jacob tonight at Teatro Terry’s Bar, adjacent to the classical Teatro Tomas Theater.

EXTENSION: Cienfuegos / Trinidad
Extension: Day 7

After breakfast, we'll explore Trinidad's picturesque old town and discover why its a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and witness some of its ongoing historic preservation efforts. Prior to lunch, we’ll meet up with a group of musicians to learn their perspective on being an aritst in rural Cuba and listen to a live musical performance. 

After lunch, we will visit the Casa de la Trova, the hub of Trinidad’s music scene. Afterwards, we’ll meet with a local artist and then return to Cienfuegos where we’ll enjoy dinner at one of Cienfuegos’ best paladars.

Santa Clara, Cuba
EXTENSION: Cienfuegos / Santa Clara
Extension: Day 8

After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll meet the singers and artistic director of the internationally acclaimed Coro del Cienfuegos (guest favorite).

After a farewell lunch at a paladar, we’ll drive to Santa Clara where you’ll catch your flight home.
